Start Procedure

Post by samk » Mon Jun 29, 2015 1:27 pm

Hey all:

I have spoken to Fred about this and there are two schools of thought. Please let me know which one you prefer. My goal is to get consensus rather than a unanimous decision.

Option 1:

Split the grids with a 5-10 second space. We did this Sunday and it worked well, however Fred did raise some concerns in that re-starts are not very practical. He suggested option 2:

Option 2:

Combine the grids (Jr. in front, Mini in back) where positions are set by either qualifying time or pre-final finishing position. A Jr. that qualifies slower than a Mini would be at the back of the Jr. field (ahead of the Mini group). The start would be a single formation of the two classes.

A couple of questions come up that also need to be answered:

1. What is the procedure for the Mini field if there are an odd number of Jr. drivers? Does pole take the even spot? Is that last Jr. spot left open? Does the second place mini move up to fill the void?

2. Where are the Jr. rookies placed? At the back of the entire grid or at the back of the Jr. grid?

I am hoping to get this resolved in the next couple of days as this will set the procedure for the remainder of the season. Please add any thoughts or comments that may not have been considered.

Thanks,

Sam

In my opinion, and Connor's opinion, drivers should always start in order of times, regardless of class. Is this not what they do with the Senior briggs heavy and light??? And rookies should always start in the back. If there is more than one rookie, they should start by their previous heats times.

I feel this is the fairest alternative for everyone but most importantly the SAFEST way to run the races.

This discussion doesn't affect me in any way, but we have been through the mini-max class, and junior (and I think every other class except shifter). I agree with the previous comments that they should be gridded by qualifying time, and race finishing position only. If a junior driver is out-qualified by a mini-max, they shoud start behind them. If a junior driver has a poor run, or mechanical issue, it should not be difficult for them to get by. If a junior is actually slower on pace, it can be very difficult for the mini's to get past, which makes for some dangerous racing. Common sense should also help with that, but often goes away when the green flag flies.

The idea of a five or ten second split is great if the mini's are very fast & not being lapped, but if you add a new driver to mini, that is 10 seconds sooner that the lapping starts. It also makes it impossible to wave off a start for the mini's if the Juniors get a green.

If we can get another 10 or so in each class, then they could run seperate!!
