Delays Due to Lack of Volunteers

Post by Mark »

A (small) number of people were out again this weekend helping out but it was not nearly enough.

It would seem that many people are under the (mistaken) impression that all we need is a drivable surface -and that was all being done by the pros and their machinery. While a smooth paved surface is certainly a requirement, we can't put a wheel on it until all the manual backfilling is done, all tires are bundled and placed on the circuit, timing systems installed, etc. etc. once all that has been done then we can apply to the FIA for certification. Only once we have been certified can we actually drive on it.

To date, LESS THAN 30% of the membership has come to help. The only reason we are as far along as we are is because some people have been there pretty much EVERY weekend, working. These people have made a lot of sacrifices to their personal lives and businesses to help; and the large number of people who appear to be sitting at home waiting until it's finished is, well, frustrating -to say the least.

We are all busy but if we expect to have a nice track to drive on then we either need everyone to open their wallets (open WIIIDE) to pay professionals to do the work while we sit back or -more practically- we can all make some time to support the club and come pitch-in.

So if you're one of those who is reading this because you just popped in to see if you can drive the track yet, the answer is no -and will likely still be 'no' until you come out and help. As always, a list is being kept of who has helped and I will be asking the executive to make the list public !

We are a CLUB so come out and show some club spirit.

With all the work that is left to do, members should assume that there will be a work party every weekend until the track is completed or winter is really here. Unless otherwise notified members should be ready to commit time at the track on the weekends. The tasks change from day to day but there is always work to do.
