Sr Rotax Meeting Tuesday March 9

Hi Guys,

We are once again nearing the kart racing season!

With the news that the CKRC race track will remain open (formally) at least another 2 years, I’m sure everybody is gearing up for another great summer of racing!

In the official Rotax regs (WCC and Nationals), we have seen a few minor changes and I will highlight them below:
-The “new style” curved airbox is mandatory (square style not allowed)
-There is a new clutch bearing and o-ring that is mandatory to use with the Steel clutch. This will reduce clutch maintenance due to grease spraying away from the bearing
-Only OEM Rotax fuel filters are permitted
-The carburetor jets have been specified as to which jets are allowed with which models of carburettor as follows:
For the 8.5 venturi (most common) only the 60 pilots and 3.6g floats will be allowed
For the 12.5 venturi (old style and now available) only the 30 pilots and 5.2g floats will be allowed

The reasoning behind the airbox change is that the old square style is no longer available and some racers who would like to test it are not able to obtain one.

The reasoning behind the carburetor pilot jet change is so that when a racer buys a new engine, the goal is that he/she can race it as-is without upgrades or modifications.

¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
Now at the CKRC we must decide what changes to implement and which to disregard.

Here are my thoughts:
-For 2010 we should allow racers to use their current airbox with the intention of allowing only the new style in 2011
-The clutch bearing and oring combo are under $20 total, I’m interested to hear what racers think.
-If we follow the carburettor guidelines, most racers will already comply. It will take 1 element of track testing away and probably give the impression of greater equality. If you don’t know what you own and don’t know how to check, bring by your carburetor and I’ll check for free!

I will be hosting a class meeting on Tuesday March 9th at 7pm. It should be a quick one, but if you can’t make it please e-mail me with your thoughts/opinion.

The meeting will be held at:
Overdrive Motorsports
#107, 12159 44st SE

Hi Dave,

Junior Rotax would have the same National reg updates this year. FYI and for everyone's info, National regs can be found at:
http://www.maxchallenge.ca/regulation.html

There should also be an annual class meeting for Junior Rotax set by either the Exec or the Class rep in order to decide the extent it will be adopted at teh CKRC.

Last night at the SR Rotax meeting, the competitors came to the following conclusions:
-The “new style” curved airbox or the square style are both allowed for 2010, with the intent of outlawing the old style in 2011
-There is a new clutch bearing and o-ring that is mandatory to use with all clutches.
-Only OEM Rotax in-line fuel filters are permitted (or none)
-The carburetor jets have been specified as to which jets are allowed with which models of carburettor as follows:
For the 8.5 venturi (most common) only the 60 pilots and 3.6g floats will be allowed
For the 12.5 venturi (old style and now available) only the 30 pilots and 5.2g floats will be allowed
-Slick tires are Mojo D2
-Rain tires are open
