2024 Tire Rules

Post by Tjfast »

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is have a great off season and is looking forward to getting on track soon and start racing. I know I am.

For the 2024 season I think it is best practice that we stick with the same rules for tires that we had last year.

6 sets total for the season
Same set for double header weekends, so the set you run Saturday you run Sunday

There are 4 double header weekends and 3 single races for a total of 11 races, the exact same as last year so nothing changes.

Please feel free to email me or pm me with any questions.

I look forward to seeing you all on the track this year and shredding up some d5's.

Your Class Rep,
Evan

I was told we are free to use the tires as we want, as long as it is from the six sets. I don't believe the sup regs state anything about double headers.

As somebody who thought the tire rule last year was somewhat silly, I think it makes a ton of sense with how the schedule is laid out this season from both a competition and convenience standpoint.

The whole purpose of the tire limits is to try and reduce any advantage to having tires better than the competition. It also inherently reduces the cost. Obviously the system isn't perfect, but with just a set limit it aids those who race less often. With a class formed of those whom I would assume 60%+ will be going to Westerns this year, it is logical to have everyone competing on the same tire wear where possible to develop the race craft and raise competition levels.

The way this season works, the only nuance to Evan's rule as is would be Race 2 and Race 7 as it pertains to deciding where to use the new set between that pair of races and which to use a used set. As written, there is a minimum of 9 out of 11 races where drivers would be on the same rotation of tires, this is a positive for overall competition. I like this, it takes the strategy and pedantic issues out of tire rules from years gone by, as the club grows "gentlemen's agreements" have proven to no longer suffice. I am a fan of a level playing field, it is the whole nature of the Rotax platform and encourages driver development over tire strategy.

The sup regs don't include the Shifter tire rules or VLR updates either, they were published before some rulesets were finalized for the year. We do now have the back end tech to enforce limits on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis if the class rep is willing to take the time to do so.

100% in support of the rule as written.

I wasn't actually concerned about new tires being put on on a Sunday, but actually being able to switch between used ones from other race days. There will be people who don't race on the Saturday showing up on the Sunday with new tires anyway.

For 2024 this won't be allowed for double header weekends. As we have already begun the season and set the rules.

The 2025 rules set is underdevelopment and this will be on the list of considerations.

Evan.
