Re: Fuel talk - octane, ethanol, etc.

Race fuel is a curious case. It isn’t really necessary for the rotax or briggs engine, and if anything is detrimental to performance. The reason the US and larger Canadian series run it is exactly as outlined, consistency. The jump from ~$35 for 20L to $160 for 20L doesn’t pencil outside of the Shif...

Welcome to the club! Did you have a budget in mind? I know of a few options that aren’t on the forum yet.

Thanks,

Jack

The needle is a much more finite adjustment. Generally the needle for Rotax here is run on the richer positions in Senior and Junior, and it is a spec needle so you can't richen further. This is also true for the inner and outer jets on Rotax. I suggest getting the main jet correct and then fine tun...

Re: Fuel talk - octane, ethanol, etc.

I believe in Europe the fuel they use is 98 RON for Rotax generally. Fuel definitely plays a big role in throwing the app off, I wouldn’t suggest using it as the end all be all.

Re: Fuel talk - octane, ethanol, etc.

Jason, That all makes reasonable sense. That seems to somewhat confirm my suspicions on why the 118 jet seemed harder to make work last season. It will be interesting this year if the ratio of ethanol fluctuates between 10% and 15% at different points as this difference is roughly a one jet variance...
