Rotax Masters Vote & Meeting

Post by sanguinetti »

Hey Rotax Masters,

With the season approaching I thought now would be a good time to put forward a couple of items we need to look at before we can get racing this year.

The first item to address is the raceday format. As you know the club adopted the ROK Cup format for the VLR 100 and all classes were given the opportunity to try this near the end of last season. Basically morning practice times set the grid for qualifying which is a 6 lap sprint making every session of the race day competitive. Rotax Masters declined since we have a tire allotment rule in place and drivers didn't have the tires available for the extra competitive session. That said, some drivers were definitely interested in the format so we need to vote. Keep in mind we believe running this format will affect the tire usage by +1 set over the course of the season.

The second thing is the continuation of our tire allotment rule which began last year in 2020. As you know we had a maximum of four(4) sets of tires to use for qualifying and race sessions. There has been some discussion about increasing the allotment to five (5)sets. The purpose of this rule was to help ensure an even playing field for all competitors in the class as well as keep costs down. In the end I believe it made for good racing fair competition and certainly we all spent a few less dollars. That being said, having only four(4) sets of tires meant that there was an advantage for some drivers who we're able to conserve and although this is definitely a big part of motor racing in most categories the purpose of the rule wasn't specifically to give any particular driving style an advantage. Think about how many sets you prefer. We will vote for the Raceday Format first at the link below and then for the tire allotment at the Rotax Masters Pre Season Meeting via Zoom on March 31 8:00pm.

The last thing is I'd like to offically welcome all new members from last year and this year to the class. It's great to see new club members and specifically Rotax Masters. Although I know most of you I don't have all your contact information so I've required your email address as part of the vote soley for the purpose of communicating Rotax Master specific information. If you know of anyone planning to race in 2021 please let them know about this post. Please note that all Rotax Masters are encouraged to vote but we will only be counting the votes of members who raced in 2020. Voting will be open until March 31, 2021 8:00 pm.

Look forward to meeting you all soon!

As a FYI the club has invested in a tire scanning system which can be used to keep track of your tire serial numbers and usage.

We had a good turnout for the zoom meeting last night, it was nice to see fellow Racers again.

We managed to discuss the 2021 race-day format as well as the tire allotment rule. We also discussed the rotax battery rule that affected some Racers last year.

As discussed we will have one more vote before start of the season just to decide on either max 6 sets of tires versus unlimited tires and whether or not to amend the current rotax battery rule.

Just to add a bit of context to the battery rule in case you missed it. I was surprised to hear that there actually could be an advantage by running more voltage and so because of that be aware that we may need to have testing or extra tech for batteries that are not rotax specification. Keep that in mind when voting.

Vote at the link below, this vote will only remain open for 1 week as we need to let Overdrive know what we're doing so they can order tires.

Just to make something clear the Club as a whole has not adopted the ROK Cup format for the whole season. The only classes that do the ROK format all year round are the Shifters and the VLR. The Rotax Masters class is welcome to run the Whole Year with the ROK Format or decide in advance which races they would like to run that format in. The rest of the club is also welcome to do the same.

Batteries ... Rotax only batteries should be used ... Their Product Their rules ... you bought into it so YOU REALLY should abide by the regulations.

Anyway just thought Id mention that in case it changes the amount of tires you might want to authorize.
