LO206 Gearing

Post by Dave Barlass »

This has been difficult to nail down but after trying numerous combinations we have settled on 16-59 as a base setup.
It is significantly faster than 15-56 which is approximately the same ratio. :o Opens up the old debate about different sized front sprockets making a difference. Interesting to note the post on the WCC topic about using a 16 sprocket for Saskatoon. This seems to be in line with my results.
Using different sized sprockets did not seem to make as much of a difference in Honda 5.5.
Has anyone else had these results?

At the last race I ran the LO206 with 15/56 and ended up changing to 16/56. Even with this new ratio and the water hazard in the chicane, the engine was still hitting the 6100 rev limiter. I would expect the ratio to come down further on a good, hot dry track day to a 54 or 55 rear sprocket.

Yup ended up with a 16/54 and it seemed to like it. That was with old 7.1 MOJOs. Not sure what will be needed for those 6.0 Bridgestones but will give an update later.
