2022 North of 49 Karting Championships discussion

Post by John Kwong »

Hi All,

The 2022 North of 49 Karting Championships are slated for July 21-24. We were very happy with many components of the event including:

-the large turnout of racers (biggest race in Western Canada this year with 120 entries)
-how smooth the event ran with our superb race staff
-the great meal
-after meal entertainment
-the fantastic prize packages to the Canadian Nationals and ROK Vegas.
-the beer gardens
-the race announcing
-the social media aspect
-the drone footage
-sponsor support from The Gentlemen Plumbers and Highland Wine & Spirits
-shop sponsor support from K&K West and Overdrive Motorsports
-the ckrc website support
-the event T-shirts and hats
-the event poster
-the complimentary N49 key chain
-media coverage from the main stream media
-the NEST cam video race coverage
-lots of new spectators to our facility
-heat race pea pick starting positions definitely made things interesting
-LeVanto tires worked well with no issues

Even with these successes, there is always room for improvement. Some of the comments that we received were:

-point system needs to be revised to keep more competitors in the mix up to the main on Sunday
-more advertising for the Saturday night meal
-more after meal entertainment on Saturday

Let us know your experience and constructive criticisms so we can build a bigger and better event for 2022

Hi John,

Great event this year as you state and some valid points to make it even better. A few thoughts -

Advertising right from the beginning of the season, far and wide. Get as many people here as possible.

Points system, my only tweak would be to reset for the heats and finals. Ie: pee pick still and collect points based on your finish etc and let those points make the first grid for Saturday, but then you start fresh Pole position has 1, 2nd 2 etc etc. After the heats those points set the pre final grid and the race position sets the final
But you are only counting the points from the start of the heats. Let’s you have a chance still if the pee pick races were a disaster. Also no late entries. The cut off is the cut off. People had plenty of notice to sign up.

Hopefully restrictions will be a thing of the past and we can have a proper stage for entertainment and maybe a kids area, bouncy castle etc

Paul

Yah I thought the event was pretty spectacular for the first crack at it! Excited for round 2 this year. Only change I would make is some sort of tweak to the points that would alter the racing order more on the Saturday and Sunday. The points system we had meant the front runners started in basically the same order all day sat/sun. The mix ups friday were super fun.

Could friday night have some sort of night racing action? A one off qualifying & 5 lap event under the lights for a separate prize?
