Transport Work Party

Post by John Kwong »

Dear Members,

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday will be the day we move the last of the CKRC equipment to the new facility. We believe we will have 2 flatbed trailers from Chris Galecki and Doug Lorraine this weekend to help finish this off. If you have a trailer or truck, that is welcome too. Mostly, we need extra hands to move the last of the equipment. We would like to start at 9am so that we can finish the move off before it gets too hot. Please respond if you can make it or why you cannot make it this Sunday. As well, tire bundling will begin this weekend, please bring cordless drills and an assortment of screwdriver bits.

Please bring with you: work gloves, proper shoes(no sandals), a bag lunch, drinking water and large tie straps

This is what is left to move:

8 power poles, trailer box with barrels inside, blue metal lookout tower structure parts, 2 gate posts with concrete on them, 4 picnic tables, Varsity Podium sign, ticket shack, 2 grandstand side rails, flat deck recovery trailer, stack of plywood, scoring tower railing and a general tidy up of the storage area.

When?
Sunday August 10 starting at 9am - meet at the Farm near Dewinton see directions below

Where?
Farm near Dewinton
Latitude 50°48'54.15"N
Longitude 113°58'46.67"W

Directions
-South on Macleod Trail
-East on Dunbow Road for 2.7km, you will see a church on the right
-take the first right after you cross Deerfoot Trail overpass which is 180 degree turn
-Follow the road. It will curve to the left.
-Go 1.6km on the straight section and there will be 2 hills to go over
-Turn right into the farm entrance and you will see the CKRC equipment stored behind hay rolls

This is going to be a huge task requiring a lot of manpower and equipment split between two locations. Please e-mail back your commitment ASAP.

Hope to see you there.

A robust crew of volunteers showed up this morning for the last of the CKRC equipment. We had a large semi-truck flatbed, a 40 ton picker truck, 2 flatbed trailers, a flatbed truck and Markus's bobcat for loading. It was all done by noon. A big thank you to the farmer for helping out our club with the storage area.

Many hands made light work today. A big thanks to North Star Contracting and Iain McVean for the tractor and flatbed trailer as well as Dan Peet for supplying the picker truck. Markus kottman and his bobcat made light work of some heavy lifting. Also the many other who showed up with other vehicles/trailers. Fred was busy with the pumps, clearing out the water in the low-lying areas. The proper tools and skills make all the difference.

I have to say how impressed I was today to see the club come together and pool it's considerable resources to get the job done.

The track looks good and has amazing elevation changes but there is still much to be done. Stay tuned for more call outs for help as the work progresses. The track will be what you help make it; please make time to come and help when asked.

Polish those karts...
