Carb setting advise

Post by Fred »

There seems to be a reoccurring problem with bad advise on carb settings.
As a rule High and low running jets should be at around 1 and 1 and no less
Low end jets should never be ran less than this and in fact are normally around 1 1/8 - 1 1/4
Running the low jet less than this will under fuel the bottom end and will result in over heated crank and rod along with bearing burn out and seizure.

Drivers have come to me complaining of low RPM, Low heat and hitting the wall in power along the straights but it will pick up again if they take their foot off the gas pedal ... this is an indication of running out of fuel.
With the low Jet so lean the casing is not taking in enough gas to transfer through the ports to the top end and will cause bottom end failures.

as a test to see if you are running correctly

Gently Warm the motor up and then place your hand on the low jet ready to adjust it ... then hold the throttle open and unwind the low jet slowly until the Rpm s pick up .. quickly let go of the gas pedal and put your hand over the air box intakes to flood the motor to a stop. The low jet is set.

More difficult on the high jet is turn the jet out until the motor starts to 4 stroke then gently turn it back in until it clears and runs crisp.

If you need any advise on Carbs please consult Myself, John Kwong or Jimmy we don't want engines blown up on bad advice.

Click on this link which describes how a 2 stroke works and it will become evident when you see it that having fuel in the bottom end casing is vital.
