Hoping someone can shed some light on the tire limit restrictions in terms of exactly what counts as a set of tires. We're running in Junior Briggs which I think has a 5 tire set limit for the season; however, we've swapped some individual tires here and there -- what counts as 5 sets? 20 unique tire IDs? or something else? is this rigidly enforced at the junior briggs level? Thanks for any insight you can provide. I don't want to accidentally get a DQ by putting on different individual tires at different times

Unless something has changed that I'm not aware of, you can use a total of 5 sets, and can use them as you want, and as long as no additional numbers are scanned, it's fine.

Ah ok, so I'm guessing it would have to be just 5 x 4 = 20 unique tires then? What I'm hoping is that replacing one damaged tire wouldn't count as a new "set" of tires(?). If not, then it would just be that you can't have more than 20 different tires in a season... unless I"m missing something. Would love to hear if someone knows! thanks for replyingphil wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 9:22 am Unless something has changed that I'm not aware of, you can use a total of 5 sets, and can use them as you want, and as long as no additional numbers are scanned, it's fine.

Mike,
That would usually depend on when the damage was done. Tech will let you scan in a tire with similar wear on a race day to replace a damaged one. The key there being similar wear.
For example if a kingpin sliced a tire in the prefinal, they would let you scan in a used tire. If the damage happened on a practice day, a new tire should not be allowed into the pool. This is the only time a 5th tire can be used during a race day.

Re: Limits to sets of tires ??
Thanks Jack - that totally makes sense in terms of what is permissible on a race day (since you can't change tires on the race day). For what I'm wondering about, perhaps a better example: suppose I do a race on a set of tires, and then for the next race, I only swap the two fronts (something I've done). Now, have I then used up 2 out of the 5 allowed sets of tires for the season, or only 1.5 out of the 5 sets? This might seem silly, but it can matter for those of us who are only replacing tires (pairs, or singles) as required through the season. We might actually only use up 3, 4 or 5 whole sets of tires, but every race might have one or more different tires as we go --- so it boils down to how "5 sets" gets counted. If new fronts = new set out of the 5, then people may run out of allowed sets if they then add new rears for the next race and so on. I'm hoping that makes sense. Thanks again for any help in understanding this!Jackmazury wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 10:06 pm Mike,

Re: Limits to sets of tires ??
I would speak to your class rep on that, but my original thought is that it should just be 20 unique serials as Phil mentioned.
This being said I wouldn't generally suggest switching just fronts or rears as it changes the overall balance in a negative way. Unless, times have changed and this is now a common practice in the Briggs classes.

Thanks Jack!! And I doubt it is common practice, just something that can happen if using partially used tires all the timeJackmazury wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2026 8:49 am I would speak to your class rep on that, but my original thought is that it should just be 20 unique serials as Phil mentioned.
