Decisions Regarding 2012

Post by wilsondolan »

Thanks to everyone who showed up to the meeting today, it was quite productive.

For everyone who couldn't make the meeting today here is what was decided:

• Tech inspection will be standard tech protocol, receiving it’s rules from Briggs Canada rule book from the ASN. The rules that are different from our club are:

• Senior Light class weight is 350lb (racers will run an L on there front number panel)
• Senior Heavy class weight will be 375lb (racers will run an H on there front number panel)
• Maximum rear width will be 140 cm.

The 375lb class weight will be re-evaluated after the third club race to determine if it needs to be adjusted.

Mark,

Just as in past years no motor will be turned away. However to contend for either the light or heavy championship you must run the LO206. The clone can be run in contention for the open class championship, and will most likely be run on the same grid as the light and heavy 4-strokes.

Another thing I am now realizing that I should explain more on is the light and heavy classes. There will be two seperate championships in the Sr. 4 Stroke ranks in 2012, that will be run together. The main reasoning behind this is that some of the racers in the past who had stronger motors to compensate for a little extra weight will be in turn handicapped by the switch to all 206. Having two championships gives the racers who fall into this category a chance to contend for their own championships. It is possible that to keep costs down there won't be any trophies on race days for these two classes.

Wilson,

To clarify, the Heavy and light classes being broken down by body weight? If so what is the cut off?

Hi Jeff,

There are no rules on the body weight of the driver. The light and heavy classes are broken down on the weight of the driver and their kart together. For instance if a driver+kart were to go across the scales at 365 lbs they could add 10 lbs of weight to their kart, and run more competitively in the heavy class at 375 lbs.

In some classes (usually at national level events) to be eligible for the heavier class there is a minimum weight of the driver, however for the purposes of our class at the club level there isn't a need to specify what the weight of the driver for the light and heavy class. As long as driver+kart weigh at least 350 lbs for the light class, and at least 375lbs for the heavy class thats all that matters!

What is meant by tires are "open"

I would guess that just means that you can use a matched set of tires from any manufacturer and that normal ASN rules regarding the number of tires used on a given day still apply?

Or does it mean something else?

Hi Tony,

Your first guess would be correct. Any matched set of tires, using the same tires for all official qualifications, heat races, and finals.
