Jaro,
The Purple will be within .1 second of the MG yellow if used in the shifter class. The version I tested had a bit more front grip than the MG yellow.
They are revising the sidewall of the rear tire to add some rear bite for 2017!

Joey

Re: New Rotax Tire package??
On November 26th, Kart dealers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta hosted our second annual Western Canadian Dealer meeting in Calgary Alberta. Amongst the topics discussed the most important change for 2017 was the implementation of the Max One tire by Vega.
This coming season, the Max One tires by Vega will be the tire of choice for both SRA Karting in Canada as well as Max Speed in the USA, two of the largest importers of karting tires.
It is our collective opinion that moving to the MaxOne Blue (medium) compound will be advantageous for racers as the performance, consistency and price meet the criteria of the club level racer that we support.
We suggest that the Max One Blue tire be used for every category as follows:
Rotax Micro and Mini: Max One Blue 4.6 based on the 950 chassis, (minimax subject to local sup reg)
Rotax Junior, Senior/Masters FR and DD2/DD2 Masters: Max One Blue 4.6/7.1
Briggs Junior 1 Cadet: Max One Blue 4.6
Briggs junior 2: Max One Blue 4.6/6.5, at 50”
Briggs Senior light/heavy/masters: Max One Blue 4.6/6.5 at 55”*
*We are suggesting a change of the rear tire in Briggs Senior in Alberta to the 6.5” – to be used on the driver’s rim of choice, as per ASN regs for their given rear track width
*We are suggesting a change of the rear track width in Briggs Senior in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to 55” maximum
With those changes, all clubs in Western Canada would have matching regulations, thus promoting Intra-Club travel and increase the level of fun and competition without adding costly regional races.
The suggested retail pricing for the tires will be $63 for the 4.6” and $72 for the 6.5” or 7.1”, roughly $40 less than the 2015 Mojo D2 4.5/7.1 pricing.
In testing held at Northstar Raceway near Calgary, the tires lasted over 220 laps – comparable to the Mojo D2 compound and recorded times in the final laps comparable to the initial laps showing consistency from new to old. In Rotax Senior, the tires are roughly 0.3 second quicker than the Mojo D2, while in 4 cycle the tires are roughly 0.9 second quicker than the Mojo D2.

Re: New Rotax Tire package??
To Summarize the last 2 pages:
1 - The Mojo D1 is no longer produced. North American importers of Mojo are moving to the Max One by Vega. The supply of D2 will also be limited, and there will not be a 6" tire by Mojo available in North America.
2 - Speaking in terms of 4.5/7.1 widths, the Max One Blue is $40 less than the D2 was in 2016 for a set of 4.
3 - Performance of the Max One Blue is elevated by .4 seconds in Rotax and about 1 second in 4 cycle with similar durability to the Mojo.

Re: New Rotax Tire package??
Good question. Here are my thoughts. I believe it will be a wholesale change to Vega including rain tires. Unfortunately, most of us probably have new or nearly new MOJO rain tires in our trailers and the Vega's are probably the best rain tires out there so an open rain tire policy would work to be able to use up the old MOJO inventory for those who will just use what they have to get by. Since we cannot know when a rain raceday will occur we cannot have a policy of the first couple rain race days are MOJO rain tires only. It just wouldn't work as some would have Mojo's and some would have nothing or the Vega's.

Joey, thank you for sharing all this information.

... could you comment on how this suggestion came to be? Could you explain what the ASN part means (do I need to get new wheels)? We are suggesting a change of the rear tire in Briggs Senior in Alberta to the 6.5” – to be used on the driver’s rim of choice, as per ASN regs for their given rear track width
Thanks again for helping us through this change ...

Re: New Rotax Tire package??
Hi Dave and all,
Great question that needs clarification.
First, the letter above is a guideline to what would be the ideal future shaping of 4 stroke (and 2 stroke) and each club will choose their path to achieve their goals.
Now for the specific part you are asking about the wheels, the answer is you don't need new ones. My intention was to write in that either 180 or 210mm rims could be used. I was informed that there are many other rims that could possibly be excluded if it was worded that way. For example there are rims such as 180, 185, 200 (inch conversion), 208, 210, 212, 214. So to word that as per ASN rules for your given width (our chosen width is 55") then all rims above would be included without having to say that...
I'm not a rules guy but sometimes wiser people help me be "wordy" then I come back and put it into English for you and I to understand.
In further clarification to the tire width for senior 4 cycle, either the 6.5 or 7.1 tire will be allowed though I will recommend to clients to use the 6.5 - which by the way will perform amazingly on the 210mm rim as proven in Arizona in LO206 and World Formula!
Please keep the questions coming.

Are we going to phase in the Max one tires? Unfortunately, I have a Brand new set of D1 and D2 slick sitting in my basement.

Re: New Rotax Tire package??
That's a great comment Joe.
Historically when sticking with the same brand of tires, our club has had a 3 race period where last year's tires were still permitted. Now i may be speaking out of turn but I am confident we will see at least that many races allowed for 2017.
A few extra points to consider:
I now have a segment of my clientelle that only test and tunes and doesn't race. I can help you sell tires to them.
Also there may be an avenue where try a kart can use your new tires and I can give you partial credit towards a new set.
We should start compiling an inventory of everybody "that has tires in their basement"

Re: New Rotax Tire package??
Yup, I too have brand new sets of D1's and D2's, plus an almost new set of D1's already mounted on Alex's kart.
I'm not particularly worried about this as I'm confident that T&T drivers will want them or we will burn them up in Enduro.
While the club will most certainly allow a period where older tires can be used, at about a second a lap difference (in 4-stroke), I can't see many opting to run the older tire in a race.
