I love it, thanks for the vote of confidence there Nathan. Any thoughts to add in terms of purchasing vs building a Shifter for that matter (which complies with all the CKRC regs)?

I would definitely buy a Shifter that is already built. See the attached picture of a Shifter ready to race.

Gil

Thanks for the link there Gil. Is the Roto Max DD2 class fairly popular (or do these guys race in the same class as Roto Max?)
Or if you're going Shifter class do most people opt for the Open Class, in which case you pick any engine under 55 hp or within those ASN rules and regs for Shifter races?

DD2 is not raced here as it is not a class people in CKRC gravitate to, so you would be racing by yourself or the back of the Shifter class if you got a DD2.
Only Edmonton will race DD2 on Wednesday nights only.

We have over 25 racers in the Shifter class, KZ, Rok, Honda Stock Moto. Etc.
All at different skill levels, all helping each other get better.

Appreciate the feedback Gil - is this blurb the most current info we have in terms of rules around Shifters? Basically ensure what you buy is 125cc output, with 6 gears, and kart has to weigh a min. of 375, 395 or 405 respectively? Found in the 2021 Supplemental Rules doc on the website:
Shifters Age 15+
Single cylinder up to 125cc max with 6 gear ratios Weight 375 Lbs Moto, 395 Vortex/older KZ, 405 new KZ motors
Fuel – race gas allowed – fuel is teched by cyclohexane method see technical regulation update 16 and 17 above.
Recommended Race fuels that are locally available include Fury and VP. Tires – any CIK Option / Prime F/Z res
allowed (7). Potential competitors are encouraged to read the class forum at
www.ckrc.com in order to see the
direction that the current competitors wish to take the class as it evolves.

Just make sure you buy a KZ or ROK, there are for sure guys who still run Moto's but that engine just isn't competitive, and as some one who has run Moto, they aren't as fun either.
I would recommend finding a package deal on a built up kart. There is a lot more nuance to assembling a shifter, lots of custom little parts to make it all work together, and if you are new to karting, building one that actually works is a tall order.
Once you have a good package put together, I actually find the running of it quite affordable, and no more expensive than when I ran rotax.

Appreciate the insight there Nathan - already watching the classifieds for a KZ or Vortex shifter! Thanks again.
