is an ASN licensce a requirement to race? Have not found it written anywhere as mandatory, so confused as to it's purpose or reason for existence.

ASN National Races .. Club membership includes your license if required to obtain a National license.... otherwise No. You must be a member of a ASN Registered Kart club to race or you have to pay a day fee as well as the entry fee.
